75th Anniversary of D-Day in Portsmouth

The 75th anniversary of D-Day is approaching and Portsmouth will be the focus of national commemorations. Here, the city council let's you know what's happening.

On Wednesday 5 June, Portsmouth will host a major international event to mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day and pay tribute to veterans.

The event, which is organised by the Ministry of Defence on behalf of HM Government, is for invited guests, including D-Day veterans and heads of state.

The national event will mark the start of five days of commemorations and reflection, and then revival-themed events in the city, centred on the seafront and the D-Day Story, organised by the city council. The full event programme can be found at www.visitportsmouth.co.uk/d-day-75.

The city council's corporate communications department says: "While we will do all we can to keep disruption to a minimum and Portsmouth will be open for business as usual throughout, an event on the scale of the national commemorations means the city will be busier than usual. So we will be encouraging people to plan their journeys into and around Portsmouth, allow extra time, and walk, cycle or use public transport wherever possible, especially on Wednesday 5 June.

"We will keep you informed on any update to the arrangements for the commemorations which may impact on your organisation as they are finalised. You can also keep up-to-date with arrangements on our website www.portsmouth.gov.uk/d-day75 , where you can also sign-up for email updates.

"This is an important opportunity for the city to mark its vital role in helping to launch the D-Day landings, particularly as the events of 1944 are passing from living memory into history. We hope you enjoy the programme of events, and would like to thank you for your patience and understanding during this period."

All businesses want to optimise revenue. Your business strategy will identify ways of driving revenue; your marketing team will generate awareness and leads; your sales team looks at the most effective ways of converting leads to sales, and then your customer service helps to keep customers buying. Another key factor to consider is your brand.

If someone you trusted said to you, “I think we should rebrand”, what would be your first thought? Maybe panic, fear and an overwhelming feeling of not knowing where to even begin? You are not alone. A rebrand can seem like a mammoth task and one that you may think you just don’t have the time for, but you might be missing a trick.

From a young age we grow up immersed at Christmas in a fairy tale world of elves, reindeers and sleighs, and the ubiquitous image of a man in a red suit squeezing himself down our chimneys. As adults we still get excited about the magic of Christmas, the hope it brings and the joy of being a part of something magical.

Whether you already have brand guidelines in place or have launched your business without them, it is never too late to think about developing your brand and creating brand guidelines for your business.
