The importance of consistency in company messaging

Be recognised in an instant.

A key element of any company branding is what you say when you are talking about the business – whether that’s the wording on the website, in a leaflet or how sales people pitch the products in meetings with prospects.

A brand needs to be instantly recognisable but it also needs to create an instant emotional response every time it is seen – and this comes from being consistent and being seen regularly.

They say that most people only notice or recognise an advert after they have seen it at least three to four times. Imagine if each time they saw the advert it said something different – they are highly unlikely to remember it properly.

That’s why it’s important to keep your company’s messaging consistent and authentic. Every interaction your customers have with you should give them the same message and the same impression.

The wording on your website needs to be the same as the messaging in your adverts and brochures so that your brand becomes instantly recognisable not only for its logo and imagery, but also for how it presents itself.

The company messaging also needs to be authentic. If you consistently spread the message that you offer fast customer service, that won’t hold up if your customer service is actually incredibly slow and inefficient. You won’t convince anybody by lying with your messaging.

Company messaging tells the story of your brand. It needs to match your vision, values and everything your business stands for and it can be very hard for a company to develop this effectively which is where specialists like the team at LCM Marketing can help.

One of the key tools which can help to ensure your company messaging remains consistent is a Key Messaging Document or Communications Guide, where all of the wording used to describe the company can be written and explained clearly for staff to follow.

This goes from the company strapline, vision statement, right through to how staff should answer the phone and the best way to address clients in emails. A good key messaging document will help to make life much easier as all communication can be checked against it to keep everything consistent.

It also saves staff from having to reinvent the wheel every time they need to describe the company or a product as they can just use the copy which has already been created in the guide document. If you would like help developing consistent key messaging for your own company you can give the experts at LCM Marketing a call today.

All businesses want to optimise revenue. Your business strategy will identify ways of driving revenue; your marketing team will generate awareness and leads; your sales team looks at the most effective ways of converting leads to sales, and then your customer service helps to keep customers buying. Another key factor to consider is your brand.

If someone you trusted said to you, “I think we should rebrand”, what would be your first thought? Maybe panic, fear and an overwhelming feeling of not knowing where to even begin? You are not alone. A rebrand can seem like a mammoth task and one that you may think you just don’t have the time for, but you might be missing a trick.

From a young age we grow up immersed at Christmas in a fairy tale world of elves, reindeers and sleighs, and the ubiquitous image of a man in a red suit squeezing himself down our chimneys. As adults we still get excited about the magic of Christmas, the hope it brings and the joy of being a part of something magical.
